Its fame reaching far beyond national borders, the Wilder Kaiser mountain range watches over the four villages of Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll where all the joys of a holiday are provided for young and old alike. The Wilder Kaiser region, in the nature reserve of the same name, is always worth a visit, especially for families.
Known as an innovative family region, the Tyrolean Wilder Kaiser tourist region is already well established as a renowned holiday destination for visitors from far and wide. Fast and easy access and excellent value for money are the reasons why holidaymaking by the Wilder Kaiser is so popular. Lots of the available leisure activities are free, such as the village evenings held every week and the Kaiser Jet shuttle bus, and all this helps you keep an eye on your holiday budget. The programmes for children and young people, with a great mix of mountains and water, fun and action, relaxation and peace and quiet, are the ingredients for a successful holiday for young and old. As a member of the Tyrolean Family Nests [a group specialising in family holidays and children’s programmes], the region’s family-friendly activities have all the genuine sparkle of a firework display. Lots of hotels offer a comprehensive children’s programme and the Tourist Board also takes fond care of young holiday makers. And this year there is a special friend waiting: Wusel Water Spirit.
Six unique Mountain Theme Parks are an enchanting attraction for families
At the summer lift summit stations there are six unique and first-class worlds of Play, Experience and Magic waiting to cast their spell on visitors. The Hochsöll Hexenwasser [Witch Water] was Austria’s first mountain theme park. Along with Ellmi’s Zauberwelt [Magical World] in Ellmau, the KaiserWelt Scheffau, Filzalmsee Lake, the Hohe Salve and the Alpinolino, together they provide families with a unique range of activities to choose from. Panoramic walks connect the theme parks, offering fantastic views of the most beautiful summits in the eastern Alps.
Welcome to the wonderful walks in the Wilder Kaiser region
Walking is rightly considered to be one of the simplest and healthiest of sports and against the impressive backdrop of the Wilder Kaiser it is also an exhilarating way to experience nature. In the Wilder Kaiser area you will find the first two stages of the ‘Tiroler Adlerweg’ [Eagle Trail], regional walking paths such as the ‘Sunnseit- und Schattseitweg’ [Sunny Side and Shadow Side Paths] in Söll as well as countless mountain paths and via ferrata.
On the set of ‘Mountain Doctor’
The individual activities and their variety make the family region a holiday destination par excellence. There are so many events to delight visitors, such as the Söll Bienenwelt [World of Bees] or an interesting walk looking at herbs. The film and TV industries are also captivated by the region’s beauty and diversity of colour. Last summer it was by the Wilder Kaiser that the ORF and ZDF hit TV series ‘The Mountain Doctor’ was produced, and this year Hans Sigl will once again be holding surgeries in the idyllic villages of Ellmau, Going, Scheffau and Söll.
